Welcome to Winter IS Conference 2012

Winter Conference on Business Intelligence http://gkmc.utah.edu/winter/ provides a unique forum for exchanging creative research ideas/findings/perspectives as well as building strong synergy among leading information systems researchers and business executives. Through papers, panels, and discussions we will highlight the data-centric challenges and opportunities for creating business strategies. The conference will provide abundant opportunities for feedback and dialogue among participants --- either at the conference venue or while racing down the slopes of scenic Wasatch mountains.

Conference topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Bio-medical, scientific, healthcare and engineering applications
  • Active learning and imbalanced data handling
  • Cost-sensitive data mining
  • Data, text, web or process mining methods
  • Design strategies or issues for data-intensive business intelligence systems

  • Impact, adoption, and diffusion of data-intensive business intelligence systems

We welcome papers that use a variety of methodologies including data mining, field and lab experiments, empirical and econometric techniques, game-theoretic and analytic modeling.

Important Dates
Deadline for submission of abstract: Nov 8, 2011
Decision on paper selection: Nov 22, 2011
Deadline for speakers' conference registrations: Jan 6, 2012
Deadline for complete papers: Feb 21, 2012

Participants will have authorized access to soft copies of papers and presentation slides. The conference does not publish proceedings but provides researchers valuable opportunities to receive detailed feedback and constructive comments for paper revisions and submissions to prestigious research outlets.
The paper summary (< 1,000 words) should include:
(1) research question
(2) approach
(3) main findings/expected contributions, and
(4) current status of manuscript. We invite both preliminary and mature works for presentation at the conference.

This year, for the first time, the lodging and the conference will be held in the renowned Cliff Lodge and Spa at the Snowbird Ski Resort - http://www.snowbird.com/lodging/clifflodge.html. The location provides breathtaking views, unparalleled snow sports and adventures on "the greatest snow on earth" at Snowbird and Alta mountains, and excellent dining and entertainment options. There will be ski-in ski-out facilities to Snowbird, and easy shuttle-bus access to the slopes of Alta. Conference registration will cover some meals, and provide lunch vouchers on Friday and Saturday for use at the dining facilities at the Lodge. Participants will be responsible for lodging, travel and snow sports costs in addition to conference registration.
