The 2009 Winter Conference on Business Intelligence
David Eccles School of Business
University of Utah
February 26 - 28, 2009

  • Ski Resorts - The participants can enjoy snowsport of your choice at Alta or Snowbird in the Little Cottonwood Canyon on 2/27 and at Mountain Park City or Deer Valley in the Parleys Canyon on 2/28.
    • The Alta Resort has been highly rated for its high annual snowfall. It is local's favorites for both the gentle and wide beginner runs and the challenging double diamond runs. Begineer skiers or skiers who like to practice on beginner runs can purchase lift tickets for the beginner area that includes mostly green runs except for two blues and one black runs. Alta is a skiing only resort.
    • The Snowbird resort is popular for its high-speed tram and lifts that maximize your time on the 90 different runs covrered by great snow throughout the season.
    • The Deer Valley Resort, an upscale skiing only resort, has well groomed runs that skiers at all levels love. The runs are wide and gentle for beginners but also allow for high-speed and fun skiing.
    • The Park City Mountain Resort is a popular world class resort with wide choices of runs. You can access some lifts until 7pm by purchasing late-day lift tickets at the resort only.
  • Bus - To transport participants swiftly for snowsport, we will stick to the following departure and pickup schedules. The participants are advised to bring snowsport gears to the meeting room before the start of the morning sessions. We will board the bus in the rear/lower parking lot of the University Guest House.
    • Departure - The bus will leave 15 minutes after the end of Sessions I and III. The estimated time to the first drop-off is 40 minutes.
    • Dropoffs - (2/27) Snowbird (Entry 4) first, then Alta (the Albion Base). (2/28) Deer Valley first, then Park City Mountain Resort.
    • Pickups - The pickup places are the same as the dropoff places unless specified otherwise when dropped off. (2/27) The bus will pick up participants between 4:10 and 4:25 pm at Alta, and then between 4:30 and 4:45 pm at Snowbird. (2/28) The bus will pick up participants between 5:45 and 6 pm at the Park City Mountain Park City to go to the buffet at Deer Valley. Participants can also choose to take free Park City Shuttles to get from Park City Mountain to Deer Valley.
  • Lift tickets - Discount full-day lift tickets for Alta, Snowbird, Deer Valley and Park City Mountain Resort are available between 8 am and 6 pm (7 pm on Friday) at University of Utah's Outdoor Recreation Programs (ORP) at $59, $54/$62(tram/chair lifts), $59 and $63 respectively. More information is available at http://web.utah.edu/campusrec/outdoor_rec/index.html. Half-day, long-day, beginner areas, or child lift tickets don't have discounts and have to be purchased at the resorts. Half-a-day tickets for Alta, Snowbird, Deer Valley or Park City Mountain Resort are priced at $54, $55/62(tram/chair), $66, or $58.
  • Ski Rental - We recommend obtaining your snowsport rentals at the resorts. ORP (http://web.utah.edu/campusrec/outdoor_rec/index.html) would be a good place to get multi-day discount rentals if you can pick up rentals before 6 pm on 2/26. Ski pants and jackets are available at ORP as well. Please note that ORP closes during the weekend. If you depart before the ORP reopens on Monday, our organizing team will help you return your rentals on Monday. We regret that we will not stop at other ski rentals on our way to the resorts on 2/27 or 2/28.
  • Climate/clothing - The winter season this year has been relatively warm and yet full of rain/snow. The temperature at the base of the lifts is likely to be from 30's to 40's Fahrenheit without considering the windshield effect, and drop by 10 degrees or more as you reach the top of the lifts. It is essential to wear right snowsport clothing for engaging in snowsports. You can find more detailed weather forecast for Alta, Snowbird, Deer Valley, and Park City resorts' websites.
  • Snowsport lessons - Please visit websites of the ski resorts - www.alta.com, www.snowbird.com, www.deervalley.com, and www.parkcitymountain.com/winter/index.html for information on lessons. Please coordinate your ski rentals based on whether your lessons include rentals.
